The 2006 Pink Ribbon Coin has Ended

Survivor, friend, mother, child, partner…we’ve all been touched by breast cancer

That’s why The Breast Site is dedicated to helping raise breast cancer awareness, while helping you to commemorate your loved ones with the 2006 Official First Day Pink Ribbon Coin. This collector’s 25-cent piece was available for a limited time to U.S. residents exclusively from The Breast Site as a symbol of hope for those we have loved and lost to breast cancer, and those who have battled and survived breast cancer.

Pink Ribbon Coin Update: The Breast Site sent its 1000th coin on August 14, 2006. Our editorial team would like to thank every reader who filled out the online form. Only 1000 coins were available, so hopefully you got your form in before the last coin was put in the mail. Amie Cunningham, a writer who worked on the pink ribbon promo team says, “As I sent the 1000th coin out it struck me how many men and women, of such various age ranges all across the U.S. wanted a cherished symbol of their own.”

Even though the Pink Ribbon Coin promo has come to an end, be sure to check back for more great Breast Site promotions in the near future.

About the Coin

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) identifies breast cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer in North America. In fact, one in 9 women is stricken with the disease during their lifetime. The CCS also estimates that about 21,600 women and 150 men in Canada were diagnosed with breast cancer this past year, in addition to millions more around the globe.

The enemy is great, but yet not impossible to overcome. In each and every effort made – large or small - to raise donations for breast cancer research, in the development of new treatment and early detection methods, in every new person that’s educated and made aware, and in every hand of support we lend to those fighting, who have survived and who have lost someone to breast cancer – we move closer to victory.

That's why the Royal Canadian Mint, in collaboration with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, has produced the 2006 Pink Ribbon Coin, in the hopes of creating a future without fear of developing or losing someone we love to breast cancer.

The 2006 Official First Day Pink Ribbon Coin features the pink ribbon at its center, and 3 additional ribbons around its border. The pink ribbon is the official symbol of hope for breast cancer victims. Currently the Royal Canadian Mint has produced 30-million coins.

The Pink Ribbon coins began their circulation in April 1, 2006, and they are currently only available in Canada at participating Shopper's Drug Mart retailers and through the RCM. However The Breast Site was proud to offer a free coin to each U.S. reader in the hopes that one day no one will ever again have to lose a loved one to breast cancer.
