Subject: Breast Reduction and Breast Cancer
I had a breast reduction go wrong and ended up with a huge hole in my chest from e-coli infection. Now I have a lump in my breast. I have to have a biopsy and my doctor said it may be breast cancer. If I had breast reduction does it make my chances of getting breast cancer greater?

This is an area of research that needs further study. However, six observational studies conducted in the United States, Canada, Denmark and Sweden that examined 32,000 high-risk women the results indicated breast reduction reduced the risk of developing breast cancer by 50 to 70 percent.
