Uncommunicative Doctor
I had a mammography followed by a biopsy. Yesterday the doctor called and said that the sample he took did not show any cancer. However, he then used a lot of very technical terms which I did not understand, but I do remember that he used the word “scar” internal to the breast. He said that our next step is an actual surgery.
I don't understand why I would have surgery if there was no finding of cancer. I'm wondering if he's talking about a lumpectomy? Doctors are so busy sometimes there is not enough time to answer questions. Are you allowed to answer this kind of question, or are you just going to refer me back to my doctor ... who is very hard to reach?
Answer:
You definitely need to talk to your doctor. Take someone with you to take notes. Ask questions until you understand the answer. And call your local cancer support group and talk to someone there. They will be easier to get on the phone and able to provide more insight into your situation.
