Will breast surgery prevent me from being able to breastfeed my baby?
According to La Leche League, any type of breast surgery or breast injury may affect a woman's ability to breastfeed. The length of time since the surgery, previous lactation experiences, her support system and numerous other variables are all factors in a woman's ability to produce milk. No matter if the surgery was to augment or reduce breast size, remove a lump or for some other reason, the main concern is whether or not milk ducts and major nerves were cut or damaged.
There are many different types of breast surgeries and looking at the scars may not be enough information. The surgeon will be able to describe the process he or she used. Keep asking until you understand!
Can breast implants burst?
Breast implants do not last forever. Some implants will deflate or rupture within the first few months. Others will deflate after several years. None will last your lifetime, which means more surgery will be required.
Do you need anesthesia for breast surgery?
Yes. Almost all plastic surgery procedures require some form of anesthesia.
What is the minimum age you have to be to have breast augmentation?
As of May 2000, U.S. federal regulation prohibits breast augmentation for purely aesthetic surgery in women under the age of 18.
How long will I be out of work?
This depends on your surgery and style of work. You should expect at least a two-week recovery period with pain medication and you will have lifting restrictions imposed for several weeks.
