Bras and Breast Cancer
Some people will tell you that there is no connection between the incidence of breast cancer and wearing a bra. The problem with this assertion is that there have been no peer review studies to confirm this position.
In 1995, a wife and husband social anthropologist team (Singer and Grismaijer) wrote a book called Dressed to Kill in which they claimed that women who wore bras 12 to 24 hours per day had up to 125 times the risk of developing breast cancer than women who limited their use to less than 12 hours or went braless.
They contended that regular movement of the breasts is critical to lymphatic flow, which cleanses tissue of toxins resulting from cellular metabolism. Wearing a tight, restricting bra inhibits that flow and process.
The authors have been criticized for their work. And it is true that no reliable scientific evidence shows a direct link with bra wearing and breast cancer. So let's see a scientific study then. After all, for years people denied that smoking caused lung cancer. Now we are banning smoking in public places.
